Day 48: Training

Day 48:  Training: Best Practices organizations emphasize Board Member training that is focused on the business of economic development, how their organization operates and what they do, and how to communicate the “value” of the organization to the community and stakeholders.  As mentioned in earlier blogs it is extremely important to have great leadership.  It is most important to have great board leadership.  When I do my interim staffing and board retreats, I have to constantly remind myself that the board members are not as knowledgeable about economic development as me.  It’s sort of like sports.  We are all great armchair quarterbacks, but most of us can’t play at the professional level.  As an organization to be really successful we must take some time to train our board members on the purpose of the organization, make them familiar with the plan and explain how the site selection process works.  Next: Partnering
