The Washington Economic Development Group (WEDG) has begun the process of searching for a new Executive Director. WEDG is a countywide organization that is based in the city of Washington, Iowa. WEDG has built a strong organization that is successfully involved in an exciting array of programs and initiatives.

The Washington Economic Development Group serves Washington County, Iowa, focusing on economic growth, business development, and community enhancement. The organization works closely with local businesses, government entities, and community stakeholders to create opportunities and drive sustainable economic development throughout the region.

Position Overview

The Executive Director will provide strategic leadership and day-to-day management of WEDG's operations, programs, and initiatives. This role requires a dynamic leader who can build relationships, drive economic development projects, and represent the organization effectively to diverse stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership and vision for WEDG's economic development initiatives
  • Manage day-to-day operations and oversee program implementation
  • Build and maintain relationships with business leaders, government officials, and community stakeholders
  • Lead business retention, expansion, and attraction efforts
  • Develop and manage organizational budget and resources
  • Represent WEDG at community events, meetings, and with external partners
  • Coordinate with the Board of Directors and provide regular updates on organizational activities
  • Identify funding opportunities and manage grant applications
  • Develop and implement marketing and communication strategies

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business, economic development, public administration, or related field (Master's preferred)
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in economic development, business development, or related field
  • Proven leadership and management experience
  • Strong understanding of economic development principles and practices
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to build relationships and work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders
  • Experience with budget management and financial oversight
  • Knowledge of grant writing and fundraising
  • Familiarity with rural economic development is a plus
